Now that we have you on the elevator going down…
“Take It As It Goes” is the internal breakdown of the self imposed obstacles one creates. The solutions are often in front of you, often inside your own head. Just take it as it goes. Featuring The Erly’s bassist, Collin Mattiford, on lead vocals.
The Erly
The Erly is Alyssa Serviss (keys), Collin Mattiford (bass), Fran Gleason (drums), and Trevor McDonald (guitar). All members share the microphone for lead vocals. With their newest single, “What To Do With You,” The Erly continues with their vintage and expansive sound that would fit right in at both Woodstock ‘69 and at the indie nerve center that is SXSW. The creative energy they share is palpable—something not every band who has brought on a guitarist from Craigslist can boast. The band formed in 2017 and has since put out two albums (Shadows - 2018, Reckless - 2021) and two singles in 2022 (You’re Heaven, Tracing Circles), and plans to release new music and hit the road in 2023.
Take It As It Goes
The beginning of “Take It As It Goes” finds the protagonist looking back on a life of fear and anxiety. He keeps himself separated from anything that might risk his current state of self preservation. This is mental state is amplified through the first chorus, where in looking for answers only makes the search more unclear, therefor keeping him deeper in his downward spiral.
The second half of the song sees the protagonist in a transition of realization. He comes to the understanding that he's been keeping himself from achieving the goals that he wanted, and that the only way he can push through life's obstacles is to allow them to unfold as they present themselves.

Lyrics
I used to live like my life was a cage
Locked in thinking that I was safe
Another place to hide
Looking for answers but it’s so unclear
Blame it on the failures over the years
Who’s to know
Just take it as it goes
I never gave myself the time of day
The chances I had I threw ‘em away
Along with peace of mind
All this time I’ve been doing it wrong
Standing in my own way
I lost my troubles when I opened my eyes
Looked around realized that I’m still alive
Now I know
Just take it as it goes
I lost my troubles when I opened my eyes
Looked around realized that I’m still alive
Now I know
Just take it as it goes
