Lyrics
I need to know, I need to see your face
I’m far from home, You’re in a different place
We travel on, along the path I take
Before you’re gone, we’ll see what we can make
Cause I got to find my way
When we’re going through this crazy life
And there ain’t no better day
Than the one where I can hold you tight
Jasmine, you could imagine
How this could happen, Jasmine
There was a time, before I knew your voice
Before your love, I didn’t have a choice
You gave me love, you gave me so much more
You gave me all that I was looking for
Cause I got to find my way
When we’re going through this crazy life
And there ain’t no better day
Than the one where I can hold you tight
Sprite and tequila, the poor man’s margarita
Jasmine was written by Fran, Trevor, and Collin on July 20th, 2019. The Erly had a few hours to kill before a festival show in Niles, Mi. The green room back stage had a piano and Trevor instantly started playing the keyboard rhythm. Within seconds, Fran and Collin had a melody and lyrics. The song was missing an ending, and The Erly was having issue. Within a few days, Fran was hanging out with his college friend, Jared Coller, who mentioned a drink he crafted. He called it the “poor man’s margarita.” All the drink needed was Sprite and tequila. Fran instantly heard the hook and took it to the band. The chant was added to the end of the song.
Basic tracking took place during March of 2020. Drums, guitars, bass, and basic keyboards were recorded live in the same room. Then, the COVID-19 shutdown occurred—delaying the remainder of production. It was not until August of 2020 until the band could finish the recording of vocals, extra percussion and keyboards.
