THE ERLY
-
The Erly is an American folk rock band from Niles, Michigan, featuring Collin Mattiford (bass/vocals), Trevor McDonald (guitar/vocals), Fran Gleason (drums/vocals), and Simon Kauffman-Hurst (keyboards). The Erly formed in the winter of 2018.
The Erly has released four studio albums, including the newest in their catalog, an 11-track Americana rock album called ‘Salem Lights’ (9/4/24). Featuring each member on lead vocals, it contains narrative-driven lyrics that paint southern-gothic landscapes amongst emotional, rootsy playing. Born out of happenstance, a jam session with intent to create demos in Gleason’s basement, ‘Salem Lights’ evolved into a completed body of work. Produced by Paul Bennett, the band describes the album as, “No metronome, all the microphone bleed you can get, and the true sound of The Erly working together in their natural state.” Though this album finds The Erly at their most relaxed, they are no strangers to creating a high-octane, jam-adjacent live performance. They have performed at concert halls, bars, and festivals across the US and have played with artists such as Cracker, MAX, Joe Marcinek Bandand Miles Nielson and The Rusted Hearts. The Erly has been featured in Grateful Web, Earmilk, The Globe, and many more! on text goes here

What They’re Saying
“Heartfelt songs blending blues, funk, and folk, offering something for everyone.” - Dan Ward, Grateful Web (full article here)
“The Erly is poised to cement their mark on the Americana genre. Hailing from Michigan, their sound is deeply rooted in folk and country as much as rock and soul. They have the stories to tell, the guts to share them, and the melodies to deliver with radio-ready smoothness.” - Daniel Meggitt, Music Crowns (full article here)
“The Erly is making a stamp with their own take on the musical influences of current and past generations, creating an experience that is unique, vibrant, and fun.” - Justin Flagel, Red Chuck Productions (full article here)
“The Michigan-based pop/soul band The Erly is new to us, but there are traces of two generation of great artists in their bright music. With a clear love for both 70s pop and funk, The Erly is a tasty throwback that sounds completely fresh.” - Soultracks (full article here)
